About Rebecca

Hello!! My name is Rebecca McKenzie, also known as “Bex”. I am a native of Madison, Mississippi, and University of Alabama Apparel and Textiles and Strategic Management and Marketing MBA graduate. I, along with my husband Tyler, just relocated from Nashville to the Huntsville area. You can find me at local festivals, pop ups and markets across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee through out the year!

I am a self-taught artist that specializes in meaningful, figurative and impressionist paintings: mixed media pieces, portraits, landscapes, abstracts, commissions. I use a unique blend of mediums to achieve texture, color and dimension. You will notice that the majority of my designs are inspired by my Christian faith, with a dash of influence from my Southern roots. In addition, I am now designing and creating gift products and home decor!

I have always had a love for all things artistic and creative. Growing up, I participated in summer art camps any chance I got and was ecstatic to take my paintings home, frame them, and hang the pieces on my bedroom walls. What started out as a hobby for me turned into a “side hustle” my sophomore year of college. As I began painting during my free time, I started posting pictures of my art on social media. This generated immediate interest, and people began contacting me to purchase my work. Ever since then, I have fallen more and more in love with creating custom art for others, and have been a full time artist since the fall of 2021!

The Name

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” Ever since I was a little girl, this has been one of my favorite quotes. Being a right-brained creative, I am drawn to the Visual. I have always learned through and expressed myself by creating visuals and pictures. Also, the Lord speaks to me through them. A picture can mean so much. It can represent a special memory, event, place or person…It truly can pierce through to the soul and communicate something extraordinary. In addition, the number “1000” biblically represents fullness and immensity. It reminds me of how the Lord can offer us immeasurably more than we could ask for or imagine if we just say “yes” and take his hand.

The Signature

“Bex” has always been a nickname of mine, beginning in my childhood. If you look closely, I turn the “x” diagonally to resemble a cross. I wanted my signature to be stamped with the Lord’s “branding”. Inviting Him in to guide you, dream with you, and shepherd you towards His will is wholly fulfilling. 1000 Words Designs is the cultivation of me doing just that.

May the Lord God of your fathers make you a THOUSAND times more numerous than you are, and bless you as He has promised you.

-Deuteronomy 1:11
